The Rise of Virtual Reality
Technology does not stand still. If you?ve been paying attention, then you know that Virtual Reality (VR) is the next big push. VR isn?t a new technology overall ? but now the hardware and software required is finally available on a large scale. Is this the future?
Virtual reality is a computer-generated environment that lets you experience a different reality. It uses a host of technologies to achieve this goal and is a technically complex feat that accounts for our perception and cognition.?The key, marketers and researchers said, is connecting with people emotionally and offering them an experience they wouldn?t normally have in the real world.
Ivan Sutherland, a scientist widely considered to be the father of virtual reality, described the ultimate VR computer display apparatus in 1965. He wrote that it would consist of a room where a computer controlled the existence of matter. The computer would be able to create virtual objects that, to a user inside the room, appeared to be real, solid matter. Decades later, the concept remains the same – using computer technology to create a simulated, three-dimensional world that a user can manipulate and explore while feeling as if he were in that world.
In celebration of the rise of VR here at d3 creative studio, we?re creating virtual models of building plans which allows people to walk through the structure before the foundation is even laid. Clients can move around exteriors and interiors and ask questions, or even suggest alterations to the design. Virtual models can give clients a much more accurate idea of how moving through a building will feel rather than a miniature model.
Imagine 10 years ago, trying to envision the way we use cellphones today. It?s impossible! That?s the promise VR has today. VR at its best shouldn?t replace real life, just modify it, giving us access to so much just out of reach physically and economically. If you can dream it, VR can make it.
